Context

Fighting for a just social system is beneficial for everyone. Political activism improves one's psychological well-being, increases a sense of control over one's life, and allows people to feel hopeful for the future.

Challenge

Research proves that many people want to drive change, but don't know where to start. I will create a mobile app where people can easily access activism opportunities.

Approach

ACTIV8 is a personalized activism platform designed to connect individuals to meaningful change-making opportunities based on their skills, interests, and constraints. The app’s user-centered experience is built to break down barriers to participation and empower users (from first-time volunteers to seasoned activists) to make real impact, their way.

Empathize / Understand

Goal

Identify why people want to get involved in activism but often feel stuck at the starting line.

User Research

Interviews and surveys highlighted key frustrations:

“I want to help, but I don’t know how or where to start.”

“I only have a few hours a week, so most options seem out of reach.”

“Fundraising isn't the only way to contribute. I have skills that could help.”

Personas

How can different types of people benefit from this app?

Newcomer:

Little experience, lots of drive, prefers short, clear commitments.

Experienced Volunteer:

Seeks impactful challenges matched to their expertise.

Time-Constrained Professional:

Wants flexible, remote contributions.

Findings

The entry barrier is high due to a lack of accessible, actionable information and options tailored to various lifestyles.

Users want tangible, low-barrier ways to get involved instantly, beyond just donating money.
